Our main article today shows that if you want to get started bringing relevant visitors to your site, there's some simple ways to make some really effective changes to your site.
1. What is the most important factor in getting new customers through your website?
Content, content, content?
Well, actually, high-quality links from respected sites, especially .gov and .edu sites (known as “official” sites). But the best way to get these links is through adding valuable content, content and more content.
If you want to have a high ranking site, then you have to have excellent content, and plenty of it. You’ll also need to add quality content on a regular basis – but not all at once, or the search engines may assume that you’ve just copied content en-mass from somewhere else. What they want is unique content.
Remember the aim of the search engines - they want the sites that they serve up to a searcher to be the best for answering a searcher’s question. So you need to add content that answers questions that your customers might ask about your products or services.
How many Words?
I’m often asked how much content should be on a page. There’s no scientific answer, but here’s a guide.
While there is no set length of pages that works best in search engines , if you are publishing quality content (either through blogs, reviews or articles), then a 500 to 800 word count is a good guide, because:
1. It gives you enough room to discuss one focused topic in detail.
2. It forces you to keep it interesting and relevant.
Since you cannot deal with more than one main idea in such a short number of words, you will need to create separate content pages for different ideas - giving you yet more opportunities to create fresh content.
Authority sites are like gold dust on the Internet - a link from them is better than many links from small, unheard of sites. Search engines use different factors to establish the trustworthiness of a site, but common elements include those websites that are official (because of the reduced chance of spamming and greater chance of accurate information) and those websites that receive a large number of links from other high ranking and trusted sites.
As we’ve said before, try and build the best website you can, to service the needs of your customers, with useful content, selling benefits rather than telling them how good you are.
There are no short cuts to quality, effective, professional SEO. At Search High, we offer a copywriting service to add “search-engine-optimised” content to your website, as part of our objective to design and implement a long-term SEO strategy in partnership with you.
Of course, you could always try it yourself…
